Building
Foundations for Life |
Intertribal Child and Family
Services is currently delivering a workplace enhancement
skills training program for youth ages 15-17. During
this vital transitional phase of their lives it is
imperative for the youth to put into practice and/or
rediscover their very own strengths, abilities and talents.
Therefore this 10-week after school hours project is
designed to facilitate five selected youth who will undergo
and experience trust building, respect, responsibility,
fairness, caring and community involvement. It is
through established business partnerships that the youth
strive to make the necessary steps into adulthood and
independency. Also as they move in a positive
direction, group discussion will allow for feedback,
strengthening, and self-evaluation. The overall
program focus areas are as follows:
- Planning
- Appearance
- Budgeting
- Getting Along
- Service
- Spirituality
- Attitude
- Character
- Communication
A note from the Youth Cultural
Worker:
"As mentor for the
program I keep these youth motivated by keeping them busy
throughout the week or weekend. The youth are
scheduled to work 3 times a week for 3 hours at a time.
We are to meet once a week to target those important areas
of concern and discuss what focus areas are in need of
improvement. There will be keynote speakers, various
certificate training sessions and elders visits as the
program takes it course."
